Avatar movie, fear and the human propensity for war
I really enjoyed watching the Avatar movie in 3D. I’m sure I’ll go back to see it again soon.
I’ve seen some threads online where people are becoming depressed after seeing the movie because the Pandora world is so attractive and the thought of living in our war-crazed world is a downer.
I know it’s a movie and a fantasy but like the Star Wars movies, I think it’s tapping into some mythic archetypes.
Humanity does seem to have a propensity to fight and make war. A lot of it is resources, not enough of things, like food, fuel, water, minerals. When people are afraid, they go into either fight or flight. Fight seems to be the usual first choice.

Various Causes of Panic Attacks
The question of the causes for a person to suffer panic attacks is sometimes more difficult to answer than one would think. Of course, many answers are possible but one of the most common is that they are, in some way, related to fear of the unknown. The onset of an extreme feeling of fear begins the process then the fear grows to actual physiological changes, causing the person to be overwhelmed and leading to panic. You can read more about this at: panic attacks cures.
The causes of panic attacks are wide and varied due to the differences between different people. There are five categories, which the causes often fall into. The categories are: improper nutrition; hereditary causes; lack of assertiveness; phobias, and pharmacological triggers. It is important to note that doing nothing about the condition may prove to be disastrous. After being once overcome by an attack, it is advised that you seek help, advice, knowledge, and anything, which can help you deal with the problem and tackle it in the right way.
Psychological and Physical
When looking into the causes of panic attacks, it is best to pay attention to the physical causes as well as psychological. More information can be found here: curing panic attacks.
One of the keys to dealing with causes of panic attacks lies in empowering the self. Even when you feel down about the attacks, it is important to try to be positive and stay as strong as possible. Often, it is suggested that a person may have suffered a trauma, which has led to a phobia and this is at the root of panic attacks. This event has left a significant mark imprinted deep in the memory, which can give rise to a panic attack every now and then. These may occur periodically for the remainder of the patient’s life as it is highly unlikely that the memory of the event will ever be erased or forgotten.
Some physical biological causes of panic attacks are worth considering too, involving possible changes in the body. It has been suggested that vitamin B plays a role. Those with poor diets are more likely to suffer panic attacks due to a deficiency. Disturbances in the inner ear can lead to disorientation and then to panic and post traumatic stress disorders are also thought to be linked to attacks. Additionally, conditions of hyperthyroidism and hypoglycemia have been shown to lead to panic attacks.
Other causes of panic attacks involve drinking of alcohol or suffering from withdrawal symptoms on account of discontinuing taking of drugs or certain medications. One other cause to be considered might be hyperventilation syndrome. A significant event like a death of someone close should also be considered when looking into causes of panic attacks. You can also read about other types of panic conditions, such as panic attacks while sleeping.
3 Ways to Avoid those Winter Blues
When winter arrives and the days get shorter, colder and wetter many people feel the blues. Research has estimated that as many as 75% of us suffer from depression and fatigue during the winter months.
Luckily there are many simple steps that we can take to banish those winter blues.
Get More Daylight
Research has shown that Seasonal Affective Disorder or SAD (sometimes called winter depression or winter blues) is actually caused by reduced exposure to sunlight. It makes sense to try and get as much daylight exposure as possible.
If you work inside try to step outdoors at least once a day to get some exposure to daylight. Even if the weather is overcast, rainy or cold. Wrap yourself up and go outside to get more exposure to real sunlight.
Another easy fix is to replace all of your lamps and lightbulbs, at home and at work, with natural, full spectrum lamps.
Positive Visualisation Techniques
Visualisation is a powerful technique that can influence the way we feel and our physical well being. Try taking some time each day to imagine the whole of your body being illuminated from within. And try to imagine the emotional feeling of being illuminated from within. This can have an immensely powerful psychological effect.
Be More Physically Active
As the days get shorter and the weather becomes wintery our natural tendency is to become less active. Fight this inclination and actually increase your physical activity each day. If you like to go to a gym try adding some exercise to your routine. If you enjoy walking then do it a little more or a little faster. If you drive to work try doing a few isometric exercises whenever you are stopped in traffic.
Whatever your daily routine there is always a way to introduce a little more physical activity.
